Stables | |
Once you've gotten past the electric entrance gate and down the driveway through the lush green fields, the state of the art brick barn is the heart of Foxtail Meadow Farm, containing seven spacious luxurious stalls with underfloor heating and self-filling water troughs. The barn also contains a tack room, a feed room and grooming/wash bay. The only standard inhabitant is Rae's stallion Zensure - other horses are rotated through based on weather, health, and plans for the day. The barn has a covered corridor to the indoor barn, eliminating the need to venture outside during the coldest winter days. |
Indoor arena | |
The indoor arena is a cozy 75' by 200' with state of the art footing and a sprinkler installation to keep the arena from turning into a dust bowl. There's a small room at one end from which to view the riders, make some coffee or go to the toilet. One of the long sides is completely walled off, the other long end has a number of glass 'garage doors' that can open up for some very welcome ventilation on the hot summer days as well as providing a gorgeous view of the farm. |
Pastures | |
Foxtail Meadow Farm is in possession of a number of pastures. The 8 acre pasture, in possession of a field shelter with feeding station usually houses youngstock, retired horses or those celebrating their break, with the herd staying outside 24/7 unless the weather is sufficiently terrible and potentially life-threatening. The two 6 acre pastures also sport field shelters and are usually used during summertime, housing the ridden horses and horses in training. Given proper weather, they too stay out 24/7 during summer. The two 3 acre pastures are used mostly during winter and have no shelter but what nearby trees provide. All pastures are fenced with post rail and wire fencing; sturdy posts and rails to give the fence body, with wide electric band halfway to keep the horses from wrecking the fence while grazing and a double wide band on top to keep the horses from getting too close too each other over the fence. |
Paddocks | |
For rainy days | |
Fenced with a post and rail system and electric wire running along the top rail, these sandy paddocks (four in total) measure 9' by 30' and serve as (individual) turn-out in the winter or during exceptionally wet periods to preserve the grass pastures, as well as a safe place to hold feral or traumatized horses, given that the fences are quite high. |
Round pen | |
Groundwork days | |
A DIY project by Rae, this 60' round pen has been made from old livestock panels filled up with wood, resulting in a sturdy corral mainly used for groundwork and lunging, though in a pinch it can be used to ride in. |
Hay barn | |
Celeste's home | |
Set off a little to the side of the horse barn and indoor arena, the hay barn doubles as home to one of Foxtail Meadow's owners - Celeste Frost calls the barn apartment upstairs her home. After all, having a vet close to both your own stalls and the vet clinic can't be a bad thing |
