Appearance
Perhaps one of the first things you notice about Vincent is his size. He stands at an impressive 6'4", and you should be able to spot his head in most crowds. Tall and well-built, there is no doubt that Vincent keeps up with his appearance. Mornings start early with exercise, and he often watches what he eats. The key word to this is often as he has a habit of pigging out on Saturdays or because of stress. Pancakes and bacon are his Achilles heel, in case you were wondering.
Sun kissed skin remains mostly smooth and unblemished, though there is a long, jagged scar on his back as well as a bullet wound scar on his right shoulder. Such injuries are an occupational hazard, and he has no insecurity over them. He has short brown that is often styled with gel at the top, and his green eyes are ever-observant.
Style-wise, you are more likely to see him in uniform than anything else. In the event that you find him off-duty, he dresses casually in jeans and a plain button-up shirt. At home, unless he is expecting guests, pajama pants are a must, and shirts are optional.
Personality
Vincent is the type of person who is unwilling to show weakness in front of another person. He puts on a strong front, keeping his head held high and never letting another person see him when he is down. He is stubborn in that way. It keeps him from refusing a request or asking for help. He would rather keep a smile on his face in front of someone than let them see tears fall, and he would rather grit his teeth through the pain and press on with his day.
Vincent is a kind person, one who would go out of his way to help even if he believes he is unqualified to do so. This sense of selflessness is not without cause. He wishes he could claim it as nothing more than out of the kindness of his heart, but that kindness stems from his selfish desire to prove his family wrong, to be better than they ever were. It has been his driving force for about two decades now, and it turned him into a bit of a workaholic, something he isn't very proud of.
Since he has been living apart from his family, Vincent has picked up various hobbies and skills. In high school, he borrowed a friend's guitar and dabbled in music. In college, he practiced his culinary skills (starting with every recipe he could find involving ramen) and honed them in the years to come. He found he adored animals, and the calm air he keeps around himself has proven to be useful when training his canine partners. Athletics is a breeze, and he has been seen on multiple occasions playing soccer with the high school team during practice.
History
The Volkovs originally moved from Russia to the United States sometime before the first World War. They started out working on another person's farm before the family's first generation in the States moved away with a full-ride scholarship. They never looked back and began making a name for themself, and, soon enough, they became an entrepreneur in the business world. Fast-forward a few generations, and the Volkov name became labeled with a massive brewery located.
Vincent was born the eldest child of the current head of the Volkov family. As the eldest, many expectations were placed on his shoulders from the moment he could walk. His education started early, and he was learning at an accelerated rate by the time he could read and write. He was never allowed to attend a normal school, at least not for a long while. He was kept isolated from most of the world, only getting to meet with those who worked for the parents he rarely got to meet.
At five, his mother gave birth to twin boys. She was suddenly home a lot more than before, but that only lasted for a few months before she was off to work once more. Like himself, the twins were raised by nannies. He tried to help out as much as he could, but he often found himself being swept away by tutors.
At seven, his mother lost her fourth child before she reached her second trimester. For once, Vincent saw his mother broken and defeated. She refused to leave her bed for a solid week, and it was not until a month later that she finally took her husband's advice to "suck it up and get back to work." It was during that month that Vincent witnessed just how strained his parents' relationship was, but he could say nothing on it. He acted as if he did not know a thing, though it weighed heavy on him.
As time passed, Vincent lost interest in taking over the company. It was originally all he wanted because it was what his parents wanted, but, as he grew older, he wanted to have his own opinions and find his own path in the world. At eleven, he requested to be placed in a proper school system. They agreed but only if he went to the school of their choice. He packed up his things and went to private school, only to find that he lacked the social skills required to handle children his own age. It took some time and a lot of playing the victim to bullies before he figured out how to make friends and stand up for himself.
At sixteen, he went home for the summer and scheduled time to have dinner with his whole family. The twins were more than eager to attend, but his parents seemed less than thrilled to be pulled away from work. The dinner was tense, and Vincent waited until everyone was mostly finished with their food before making another request.
He wanted permission to go to the college of his choice and have nothing to do with the brewery. His father was furious, his mother was less than pleased, and the twins snickered to themselves behind their napkins. His mother agreed, however, much to the surprise of everyone. She had little faith in his abilities outside of the company since he had been conditioned since he was toddler for that place alone. She wanted to have him fail elsewhere so he would know his place.
He was determined to prove her wrong.
He wanted to practice law, so as soon as graduation was approaching, he applied to just about every law school in the country. He was accepted to many, and he contemplated his choices for hours before deciding. Okay, he spread out the acceptance papers on a table, closed his eyes, and pointed to one. Vincent ended up picking the Nebraska College of Law, and he packed up his things as soon as he graduated and drove off to his new life.
His parents were not expecting him to graduate early. His parents were not expecting him to move to Montana, apply for and sail through the pre-service program at Montana Law Enforcement Academy. His parents were not expecting him to get hired immediately afterwards by the police force in a small town in Montana.
Vincent had found his place, and he lost contact with his family not long after that. It did not both him too much. He busied himself with work to keep his mind off of it. He quickly took up the opportunity to work with the K9 officers, excelling through another round of training and getting assigned his very own partner. The years passed him by.
At twenty-six, Vincent and his partner volunteered to assist the force in the next time over with a case. One wrong move while chasing after a member of a drug ring sent himself to the hospital and his partner to the vet. He was on medical leave for two months before his back recovered enough to move easily, and his partner was forced to retire with a permanent limp. He pleaded his case to the department and purchased the dog before the chance of euthanization could even be brought up.
Vincent has continued his work ever since, eventually taking on and training a new canine partner despite his recent advancement in rank pulling him from the K9 unit.
