they say i am crazy, they have no idea
Alex was standing behind the counter of the shop. He was wearing his signature beanie on his head. He saw the snow falling calmly through the windows. Alex sighed a bit before looking at the time. He wanted to go snowboarding but he had to work. He felt like he was stuck here.
He took a sip from his own coffee while he waited on customers to come in. There were a couple in the shop though but no one really ordered anything. Alex was bored and it was readable of his face. He took his phone out of his pocket and started watching some games while messaging people. Waiting in hope more people walked in.
The iced sidewalk bid a temporary farewell as medium roast and cappuccino swirled through Blake's senses in the empty space of the coffee shop's foyer. A bead of sweat trickled down her soft, redden cheekbones before soaking into the sleeve of her black hoodie, its cotton fibers worn from multiple washes. Hot, why was the snow so hot? Her jean shorts, high on the waist, had a fresh one-inch tear on both outer hems, allowing her legs to breathe more. Black half-tied snow boots and a maroon beanie, which partially hid a day's unbrushed blonde waves, disregarded the idea she could be walking through an inferno. Still, Blake shoved her hands into the front pocket of her hoodie and continued in a lazy pursuit.
Smokey green eyes set a casting glance over her shoulder as she approached the far corner of the counter, stopping just off to the side of the cash register. Her gaze was heavy, bored, like she had seen the menu a hundred times before, regardless of being a first-time customer. Blake's lips set in a hard line. "Your beanie sucks." The young woman commented to the man behind the counter, her southern drawl ineffectively insulting but pressing enough to poke a sore spot in someone without a humor. Cocking a hip, Blake continued to look at the menu.

they say I am crazy, they have no idea
Alex saw the girl walking in and he calmly lets himself slide of the counter he was sitting. A small yawn left his mouth while he started leaning with his hands against the counter the register was on. Alex looked at the girl coming closer with his gray-green eyes of his with his an unamused tone in his face. He still didn't want to be here today and wasn't really in the mood to work although still being tired from the party last night also helped him in being in a tired mood.
When she said his beanie sucked Alex calmly shrugged. He never really cared what people thought of him. He has always been kind of the black sheep of the village since he wasn't the one to go horse riding. He was the one that took was riding dirt bikes through the trails. Going off-road and searching for pure adrenaline rushes. It was why he was so sponsored by a couple of brands with snowboarding. He searched for the limits of his body and tried to go beyond.
"So anything else you want beside failing at attempts to insult me?" Alex said calmly towards her in before with a stale face. She wasn't the first one trying to insult him though. He had skiers insulting him his whole life because of his snowboarding career. He never really cared about it so why would he care about some random girl that walked inside the store.
Her weight swayed, shifting to the opposite hip. His retort slowly lifted a scanty smile. She gave a superficial laugh before leisurely rolling her gaze from the menu to the barista, never reading the list of options. Meeting his pale expression, Blake's eyes focused on his, as though registering him like she'd seen him before. Knew him personally, read his thoughts. But it wasn't the case. Nothing came back, but her features remained unmoved.
"You don't belong behind that counter, do you, Barista?" Blake inquired curiously, retracting her hands from the hoodie's pocket to cup her chin as she braced her elbows on the counter. A light glistened in her eye. She grinned. "Not that anxious-barista type. No, you're too good for a place like this. Aren't you?" Crossing an ankle over the other, Blake gave the impression of a inquisitive girl, however the glistening light in her eyes slightly flickered and faded, mixing with a ray of boredom.
Behind Blake, a cold rush of wind momentarily soothed her hot nature as someone entered the building and diverted into the sitting area. Despite the rise in voices, assuming said patron met with the existing table, Blake's gaze remained incoherently fixed on the barista boy.

they say I am crazy, they have no idea
While the girl started talking again Alex calmly shoved the sleeves up a bit from his long-sleeved shirt. The moment he shoved up his sleeves a couple of tattoos started showing on his left arm that was the beginning of a full sleeve he was working on. He started leaning with his elbows on the counter so he got at the same height as she was while the expression on his face stayed tired and unamused.
When the door opened Alex looked a bit over her shoulder to watch if the person walked towards the counter or not. The guy walked towards an empty table so Alex just mentally shrugged it off. If they wanted something they should go to him he always thought to himself. He looked back towards the girl that was asking him questions. "So tell me the truth. Did you come here for the coffee or to see if you I could help you with your boredom? " Alex asked her in a calm tone. "If it is the second. I know a couple of ways to help you." He said while he looked straight into her eyes.
Choteau had confirmed Blake's lack of expectations the moment she laid eyes on the town's shoddy courthouse. Of course her cousin would choose the most lifeless of places to live, complete with equally lifeless people. The people Blake hardly minded, though, most days she preferred to not exert the energy in seeking out other people to entertain herself, but today was an exception. Blake needed insight on Choteau, needed to learn the inner workings of it. All of the shadowy places, and things.
"Trying to prove me right... I have walked into the right coffee shop after all." She concurred, withdrawing a light sigh and slowly exhaling as she rose from the counter. Moseying closer to the cash register, a plate of muffins sparked her interest. She picked one out. "Does the second involve risking your job?" Blake asked, lifting a brow to the barista as she unraveled the muffin and took a bite. "Curious to know how much of my boredom this can cure." Or else she'd be ordering a mocha bullshit and snitching on Susan Sally from church instead of wandering town. God, this town sucked.
