Welcome to Choteau, Montana, in 2018. What was once only a small city focused on fossils, has now started to turn into an equestrian mecca. Everyone still knows everyone, so the question remains, what will you become?

Kennedi pulled her hair back into a tight ponytail, and sighed. Today she was going to tour the barn where she was going to work, and where her horse was staying. It wasn't an official tour, but she wanted to look around and see the sights. From what she had heard, it was a good place to be. She was excited to start her first job. At the age of eighteen, she hadn't worked a day in her life. It was going to be interesting. She slung her bag over her shoulder, and headed down to the barn.
Rebel greeted her as she walked through the doors. She smiled at the Thoroughbred, and headed towards his stall. Of course she had to visit him first before her journey through the facilities. She pulled out a couple sugar cubes and fed them to him. "You're such a good boy," she told him, stroking his head. The bay nudged her, as if he was asking for work. The colt was a bit feisty at times, and wanted to work. He was strong headed, but Kennedi worked well with him.

After finishing her morning chores, Dakota took the bus to the stables. Most kids her age would have been in school, right now, but she wasn't because her father did not let her be a kid anymore. He had given her a very painful punishment the day before, but it only hurt a little now. At least she still had her mother's horse, which gave her a little bit of freedom.
Once she got there, she hoped off the bus and skipped up the drive. Flash trotted once to the paddock fence, to greet her. She smiles, and stroked him. Flash followed her along the fence line, to the gate, as she pulled his lead rope out of her fanny pack. She opened the gate, clipped it onto him, lead him out, and made sure to close the gate behind her.
She led Flash into the barn, and down the ail. She glanced at the newcomers in the stall next to Flash's, as she led Flash into his stall.
[attr="class","box2"]Kennedi loved her horse, despite his temper tantrums. She was working with him on that, but she could probably use a trainer as well. He had decent ground manners, though. He had a hell of a history, and Kennedi knew she had to be careful with him. For the most part, he'll do as he's asked. But he's fiesty about it. He had been a rescue as a colt, from the slaughterhouse. Her step-dad had bought him specifically for her. It was obvious he still had trauma from being at the auction and in those trailers. But it had been a few years, and things were looking up. She had managed to get him to Choteau, after all.
Kennedi looked up as a girl led her horse into a stall nearby. She waved a friendly 'hello' and slipped out of Rebel's stall. She headed to the tack room for supplies to brush down her horse. He should feel pretty, after all. She began brushing him, and she relaxed. Brushing her horse was calming for her. Not that she needed the calming, but it always felt so serene. Rebel loved being brushed. He'd stand there for hours and let almost anyone brush him down. Sure, he'd go and roll in the nearest mud puddle when she was through with him, but it was the thought that counted.
