Welcome to Choteau, Montana, in 2018. What was once only a small city focused on fossils, has now started to turn into an equestrian mecca. Everyone still knows everyone, so the question remains, what will you become?

Appearance
For the most part with Kacey what you see is what you get. I wouldn't go as far as saying he's just average but there's nothing that makes him standout. That is somewhat by design. Usually he can be found in a pair of jeans with a t-shirt of some description, some with writing but he steers away from the designer labels and looks.
His hair varies in length, depending on whether or not he's taken the effort to get it cut but generally everything's what you'd expect from the average adult male.
He has one notable tattoo and he'd rather no one knew about it. Needless to say, across his shoulder blades, reads a scribbled 'Murderer'. (For full details on the how's and why's please see his history). With this very unflattering tattoo, he doesn't ever take his shirt off around people. Eventually he'll get a cover up for it but that's for the future.
Personality
Kacey is, well, Kacey. He's not a hard guy to get along with. Getting along with everyone might be going a bit far but he generally tries to. He's a blend of being sure of himself and not depending on the situation. While not entirely arrogant, he can come off that way at times.
He has a hatred of unfair circumstances and people can very easily get under his skin with things like that. He's sensitive about being an ex-con and suffers from a bit of paranoia if someone mentions such things - he tends to think he's been found out.
Kacey also suffers from certain levels of an anxiety and depression. Most of the time, he has these problems when things come up that trigger memories from that first horrible year in prison. Generally his reactions are mild enough most people wouldn't notice but there are a few things that make him a quivering mess. He's terribly afraid of the dark too.
He does have something of a temper but it takes a while to see it these days. He has quite a level of self control. But he does have a problem with authority figures (i.e. the police) if they're abusing their power or giving him a hard time.
With everything, he's just a normal gent trying to make a living and live his life. Easier said than done, some days.
History
Kacey came into the world on April 14th, 1988 and everything was what you'd expect from the average American family living in Colorado. Around the age of two, his family gained two more family members in the form of his twin sisters, Felicity and Marie. As you can imagine it was even nicer until the day their father ended up in a car accident and bleed to death before anyone even knew what had happened. Just like that they lost their dad and their mother was left to pick up the pieces.
Things were not easy for them. With their mother working just to keep food on the table, often the children were left to be watched by neighbors or to their own devices as they got older. This was something that Kacey grew to resent as time ticked by. He couldn't join the school's soccer team, she never saw any of his projects, the woman was just never around, in his mind.
And at the age of fourteen Kacey started to rebel. Parties, drinking, smoking and vandalism. Mostly in the form of graffiti art. Six times in three years he was arrested for mostly the same crime. He wanted nothing more than their mother to lose custody of them so they could have a proper home and that was something that never fully happened.
It was all fun and games, however, until his sisters started down that same path. Even if he was setting something of a bad example for them, he didn't want them getting into trouble. Sure enough trouble came a knocking. Kacey just happened to walk in on his sister trying to fit in a girdle to hide her baby bump. At a party, no less, someone had slipped something into her drink and well... that was the result. While Kacey had promised not to get angry when she told him the name of the guy who had done it - that was not a promise he could keep.
Kacey was a man possessed and soon enough he found the one responsible but everything went wrong after that. When Jason Applegate, went to run away Kacey pushed him. Being much closer to the curb than anyone realised, he fell into the road, and into the path of a coach bus of tourists. He did not survive and for the first time in his life, Kacey found himself in some real hot water.
Of course there was no denying the fact that he had pushed Jason. Even if he hadn't been intent on killing the other guy, that was how things had ended up, for better or worse. Kacey spent his eighteenth birthday in jail and within another six months he was sentenced to thirty years. A punishment thought unfit by Jason's parents, easily noted by Evan Applegate launching himself at Kacey before getting dragged away after the sentence had been announced.
Shortly after, Kacey was processed, sorted and deemed fit for a medium security prison. It was nothing like what they liked to show on television, he soon found out but worse, were two guards, Grey and Thomson, he later discovered one of which was an uncle of Jason Applegate and so began what was a year of hell. The other prisoners were nothing compared to what someone with free access could do. Kacey found himself on the receiving end of beatings and other violence that were always blamed upon something else.
The worst of which came in the form of a tattoo gun which etched 'MURDERER' into his skin. It was a crime unpunished for months. The remainder of that year, he works hard to block out until this day. He was nothing short of tortured to the near point of suicide until a first year guard, Wright, found him and not only saved his life but ended up with enough evidence to get Grey and Thomson charged. After that prison got easier, much easier.
Without being tormented, Kacey was finally able to function. In the next twelve years he got his GED, became a cook in the kitchens, among other things. The most exciting of all being the chance to work with horses. As part of the prison's programme, he had the pleasure of training a wild mustang. A challenging project but one he did enjoy. It was a sad day when he had to let the mare he had been working with go. Perhaps even more than that was the fact he got parole a mere three months later - not that he had the time and the resources for a horse.
He was, for the first time in over a decade, a free man. At first, he went back to his roots but as anyone would tell you, small towns have very long memories and after several months, he thought better of staying. In the end a relocation seemed like the best choice. What drew him to Choteau, is unknown. Another small town was perhaps not the way to go but with the move finished and a new parole officer assigned, he's stuck here for now. Determined to start his life anew, Kacey's trying hard to keep his past where it belongs but the question is... how long will that last?
