TW: Mention of Animal Abuse
After a 'fun' filled day in which Michael had got way too annoyed, he'd elected to head out away from the stables, away from people, just walk and walk and walk. Now he was annoyed at himself for that, out after curfew. "Fuck the world," he grumbled "It'll be just my luck I'll get fucking officer tight wad on my fuckin case about been out" he was ignoring that he was half way through a bottle of bud, and that he had a cigarette in his free hand, his expression fixed to its usual pissed off look as he walked along the road side.
He already was planning his excuse 'I lost track of time, heading home now' when he heard a whine from a layby he was passing. Okay that wasn't normal. Could it be a hurt wolf... nah they'd normally snarl he was certain. And there'd been no howls or anything. He shrugged not his fucking problem. He was more then willing to go on when he heard that pathetic little whine again, which brought him to replace his half finished cigarette between his lips, holding it there as he pulled his cell out to illuminate the area, ignoring the 3 missed calls and 10 messages demanding to know where he was no doubt. Eyes glowed back briefly, from the undergrowth, and slowly he moved closer. His breath caught as he saw a broad bully breed head, tan with a white stripe and muzzle.
"And what you doin whining out here eh? Pretty sure if your fuc-- oh" his gaze darkened considerably as he'd come close enough to see that first of all it was a bully breed, and the tan and white continued along the body, the white legs marred with red, and. "What fucking sick bastard hog ties a fuckin defenceless mutt, I swear I'm gonna rip some fuckers head off" he growled out crouching next to her, eyes narrowing more as he saw how fucked up half her face was, as if she'd. "Fucking cunts," he added on noticing a rope. Some sick fuck had presumably tied her to something and dragged her.
"Now what the fuck am I gonna do with you? Well I guess I could try and untie you if you promise you ain't gonna bolt or bite me," he muttered moving to start inspecting the knots before sighing as he found that they were too tight. "Stay there girly, I'm gonna have to cut you loose..." he was rumaging through the pockets of his leather jacket finding the pen knife he'd been using to cut through twine on hay bales, and starting to set to work, oblivious to approaching headlights other than they were making his job harder, and he moved enough to stop himself from being blinded by them. He was only hoping if he could cut her loose and make some form of impromptu lead and collar she could walk at least.

A black nose pushed through the small opening between the driver's and passenger's seats. A black muzzle followed and then a tan head. Pointed ears drew forward, dark eyes glancing at the darkness beyond the glass. The dog drooped his ears slightly as a hand dropped on top of his head, fingers bending to rustle the tan fur. "You want up front, boy?" The Malinois did not need a command to know what he meant, and the dog swiftly slipped through the hole and onto the empty passenger's seat. Caesar sat down and made himself comfortable, turning his head to peer at the sheriff.
A smile was present on the man's lips, and he chuckled as his hand returned to the steering wheel. "Can't imagine how bland of a view you get from back there." The sheriff's cruiser had been fitted with the proper placements for carrying a canine officer as well as anyone in handcuffs they needed to transport. A thick white barrier cut off the back seat, leaving enough space on the passenger's side for a single car seat. The other side was wide enough for a dog to lay comfortably, the seat removed, and the barrier meant for protecting the officer from the arrested had a gaping hole between the seats. Well, he could close the gap if he wanted, but he liked having giving his partner a little extra roaming room.
Caesar turned his head, dark eyes watching the passing darkness intently. Vincent turned his attention back to the road, glad tonight had been quiet. It allowed for a little extra calm, though he knew that would never last. A small oof drew his eyes once more, and his foot was already easing the brake by the time a heavier bark escaped the dog. The barking continued as the cruiser slowed, and he finally caught sight of someone on the side of the road, leading over something else. He pulled off to the shoulder of the road, leaving the car on for the headlights. Naturally, he should have turned on the flashing blue and red lights, but this was a reserve. He would rather not upset the wildlife more than a barking dog probably was.
Opening the door, Vincent stepped out. Caesar turned away from the window, a slight jerk of his muscles showing he would have bolted over to the driver's side had he not remembered his training. In a soft voice, the sheriff called for the dog to heel, and the Malinois was quick to soar over the seats and out the door. At least he stopped barking
Leaving the door partially open, he pulled a flashlight that was hooked to his belt. Clicking it on, he held it up as he walked around the car, the dog sticking close behind him. His stomach dropped at the sight before him, but he pushed it aside as he stepped forward and crouched down beside Michael, angling the flashlight so he could get a better look at the tied up dog.
"You seem to find trouble wherever you go, huh, kid?" He turned over his shoulder, keeping the light positioned where it was just in case Michael needed the extra lighting. "Caesar, leash." The dog's ears perked before he doubled back and climbed into the car. Vincent returned his attention to the matter at hand. As much as he wanted to reach out and jump into helping, he had encountered too many injured animals during drug and fight raids to know that too many hands could spook an animal. So, instead, he lowered his free hand to the ground near the bound dog's snout, letting her sniff if she wanted and making sure he did not get in Michael's way while he worked. Unless his commentary was enough to get in his way. "She couldn't've been here for too long. Those ropes aren't deep enough, thank God." Such a relief was not enough to push aside the sick feeling he got just from looking over the visible extent of her injuries.

The dog barking as the car came to a half made him freeze. He -recognised- that type of bark. It rarely had good consequences. He was half ready to comply with any instructions given his expression darkening. When he didn't get told to freeze and put his hands where he could see them that didn't make him particularly relax.
"Hate to ruin your day, officer, but I didn't do shit wrong other then find her when I were headin home," he stated eyes flicking towards the hand warily before he continued working to free her from her bounds. "Thing is, I don't know how bad she is, face is fuckin messed up," he added on "and before you start, no I didn't steal the knife. I was usin' it to cut baling twine to fill haynets and forgot to leave it behind, no harm no foul I'll be a good boy and put it back when I get back home," he couldn't help his defensive state. He didn't expect the police to not be out to cause issues.
He gave a sigh of relief as he managed to finally cut through the ropes tied around her legs, carefully stroking her side "Want me to cut the rope round her muzzle or are we leavin that on in case she bites cause she hurts?" he glanced over warily "Cause I ain't got anythin other then a belt to use as a leash and I'm gonna assume your gonna seize her as an animal cruelty case anyway," he watched as she tried to struggle to be laid on her chest whining again trying to help her without causing more pain.

"Said you find trouble, not that you cause it." Voice soft, green eyes remained focused on the battered dog. Without any definite reaction to the presence of his hand, the sheriff shifted slightly to move to the other side of the dog. He kept his flashlight angled so Michael would not have to fumble with the light from his phone. "I don't see a knife," with the smallest of smirks forming on his lips, Vincent briefly glanced up and winked at Michael. It was enough to say that he was not going to report him. Not this time, at least. The kid was human, after all. Mistakes happen. Now, if this had been a case where he 'forgot' and used the knife later to harm, then he would not be let off so easily.
This, however, was far from that.
"Go ahead and free her mouth," as he spoke, Caesar hopped out of the cruiser, claws clicking against the pavement followed by the slap of a leash as it fell to the ground. The Malinois slipped up to the sheriff's side, a thin leash made from braided rope dangling from his mouth and dragging on the ground. Vincent pulled his attention away from Michael and the injured dog, holding out his hand, palm up. The leash was dropped into his awaiting hand, and the Malinois promptly sat down and swiped his tongue over his lips. Before Vincent turned away, he held the back of the flashlight to Caesar's lips. "Hold." As if he was instructed to hold an egg, the dog parted his jaws and carefully took the flashlight between his teeth.
"Good thing I always keep a spare around, then." Green eyes returned to the dog as she struggled to move. "... Something tells me she can't walk. We can at least use this to control her head, just in case. In my experience with the dog fight raids and other cruelty cases, though, most of these dogs won't bite once they know you're helping." With his hand freed from the flashlight, he moved slowly toward the injured dog's head, making sure she would not be spooked by his movements as he gently looped the leash around her muzzle above the rope. He did not pull it tight, instead positioning his hands to hold her head still. "I've got her, so go ahead."

Michael paused to glare at the officer, the message clear 'I still don't trust you' even if he was rather relieved that he wouldn't be getting into shit for having a knife. He'd been about to start to do as he was told, and free her mouth, when the dog returned, causing him to freeze up, again. At least until he was certain he wasn't going to get the dog set on him.
Carefully then, after sliding two fingers under the rope to get him enough space so he was cutting away from the dog, muttering under his breath what he wanted to do to sick fucks who'd tie a dog to a fuckin van and drag her, most of them being things he probably shouldn't be saying around an officer of the law. Not that he cared right now.
Once the rope was cut he glanced to the officer "Now what?" he muttered grumpily stroking her head gently though, expecting her to be taken from him now. Because that was typical.
