Jack was a bit restless and causing trouble among the other horses, which prompted the old cowboy to saddle him up and take him out on a trail or something to burn some energy. Quigley chose a more difficult task of working in the arena with the steers. The horse crouched low to the ground as he stalked the calf, keeping it away from the herd until Quigley gave the go ahead to release it. The cowboy simply held the horn and allowed the horse to move, keeping his eyes on the calf as much as the horse did.
Today was the first hard go on the barrel pattern since Cleo arrived at Rusty Bucket a week ago, but for all the off time Blake had leisurely taken, Cleo took to Montana's thin air and cold wind just as easily as she did anywhere the duo's tours had taken them before. As Blake directed the mare back to the barn, the red dun's ears perked at a man currently cutting in the passing arena. Halting the short mare, Blake stood in the saddle to peer over the railings. "Yeah, slice that brisket, boy!" She called out comically, cheering the handsome cowboy on.

He heard her. His horse didn’t pay no attention. The duo tracked the calf until Quigley found the performance up to par with his expectations. He patted the stallion’s shoulder and turned him towards the fence, eying the woman with amusement. “You tryin’ to distract a man from work?” he asked in a teasing tone while riding over to the woman. He stopped just short of the fence, dropping his reins across Jack’s neck which signaled for him to relax. “How’d your ride go?”
Blake returned her seat to the saddle as he rode up. She gave an easy smile. "When a good looking cowboy distracts me, I can't just let that go without returning the favor." Blake teased him back, shrugging a dainty shoulder. Cleo's tail flicked at a fly as Blake leaned back and crossed her arms. The mare was already over the visitation. "Ground was a little soft for her," The blonde began, glancing down at the mare, "but she's tired." Said like it was a good thing, Blake then looked past the man. "Ever ride one of those things?" She nodded toward the group of cattle.
