Appearance
Ezra is a pretty decent looking fella. Standing six foot three inches and a healthy 200lbs. He's of athletic build and maintains a healthy lifestyle by hitting the gym and... eating whatever he wants. The He has tattoos, a partial sleeve that does not go past his elbow on his right arm of an atlas, looking glass, a quill and compass. This reminds him that though he has been on quite a journey, his story is still being written. Another on his left arm of Revelations 5:5, reminding him to keep moving forward despite the obstacles he'll face.
He also has scars on his legs from a childhood incident of falling into booby traps he and his friends set around their treehouse to keep out 'intruders'. Forgetting where they were for the moment, he fell into one barbed wire trap that left a gash along his inner thigh. A couple of strides of dragging his leg, limping and whimpering... he fell into another and tore his ankle up as well. The scars stuck, he had stitches on his thigh. After that, his parents made him and his friends clean up the traps to prevent further incidents.
Personality
Don't let his priesthood scare you off. When asked what his likes and dislikes are, he replies with he's a preacher, but he's also human with human wants and needs. It's the same as everyone else, but he has a set of morals and values that he sticks too and leaves things up to Faith. He's not overly religious, a bible thumper by any means. He doesn't shove his beliefs or faith on others. He's merely a presence that if he's needed, he's always there to be a rock or shoulder to lean on, someone with deep roots that's unmovable and unwavering against the dramatic storm that is life.
He's rather unconventional when it comes to his faith and beliefs. He believes that everyone deserves happiness regardless of their preferences - be it sexuality, religion, everything. Granted, he does have lines that he believes shouldn't be crossed like abuse, rape, things like that. But Homosexuality, same sex marriage. Those things don't bother him. He doesn't judge a person based on their past, but simply regards them for what they can do, who they can be. That is the person he wants to know.
Ezra is very patient. He has a long fuse, but a history of violence that has taught him restraint. Along with being a preacher, he's a teacher at the local high school. He believes he can make a difference, change the world one kid at a time if he can catch their issues fast enough. In his downtime, he's a bit of a gamer, a nerd. Kind of goofy and a bit of a kid himself at times.
History
Everyone has a story. A story that molds and shapes them into the person they're supposed to be. Yes, there are obstacles along the way, rocky paths that veer off every now and then. Ezra was no different. As a kid, he grew up with his cousins and parents. It was a relatively normal childhood, relying on family to get by, going to school and getting into trouble occasionally. Normal.
Until his teen years, when he started getting into trouble, started partying, drinking and doing drugs. He did get addicted to them and pushed his family away. He focused more on how much it took to get him completely wasted rather than school. Ezra didn't understand what faith was as a child, His family wasn't religious and barely spiritual. It took hanging with the wrong crowd and getting way over his head in trouble with the gang, the members... and of course, a girl. The wrong girl. The relationship was toxic. She was controlling and encouraged him to keep up the drugs. Fight after fight, they fell further into the relationship, thinking it was an epic love story. It wasn't.
After finding her in bed with another man, both of them knocked out from the drugs they had taken. He tossed them out and turned to drugs himself, overdosing and hoping for some end to the pain he was feeling. Waking up in the hospital wasn't the beginning of his faith, but more so the end of his drug usage and the people he hung out with. He spent a while in rehab, meeting others who had gone through something similar, yet different.
After leaving rehab, he hit another brick wall. His mother passed away after fighting cancer for years. That's when he turned to God for the first time. He found his faith after begging for the strength to stand in front of the congregation and speak on behalf of his mother. Begging for the strength to climb the stairs and deliver the words without wavering, he got his wish. To this day, he swears he felt the hand on his shoulder and the voice in his head saying, "It's okay, I've got you."
Since that moment, he really turned his life around. He got his GED and pursued college, getting an education degree to teach high school along with taking classes in religious studies. But classes couldn't teach him everything.
After graduating, he used his experiences to reach out to the kids he taught, and to whoever else might need it.
