Appearance
Quigley wears long sleeved button up shirts most of the time, regardless of the temperatures outside. His body is littered in scars from abuse as a child, and then fights later on in his teens and early twenties. After pursuing a career in law enforcement, he was retired early from a gunshot wound to the chest that was too close to his heart. He has a scar from that, as well as the surgery that split his chest open to retrieve the bullet.
Personality
While he's not exactly closed off to people, he isn't outright sociable either. Not the outgoing person unless he's spoken to first. He doesn't talk much about his history, as it's just that. Usually, if one is interested, they'd have to ask him questions to get him to open up. When he finally does get close to someone, he can be quite sarcastic and a bit scandalous with jokes and such. He's protective of his family and friends, and possessive of his loved ones. He won't outright show his possessiveness, but he's the type of guy to go behind his girl's back and confront a man for looking at her the wrong way. Family comes first for him, nothing will ever get in the way of that. One thing that followed him would be his tendency to drink. He only ever does if he's at a bar, and never to the point that he's wasted. He enjoys being at a bar, shooting pool, drinking with friends if he has any.He is also a sharpshooter, pretty handy with a shotgun and rifle.
History
Quigley was born to a poor family on a farm in Wyoming. The family moved around a lot, usually because they would lose a job, couldn't afford rent and get evicted - then have to start over again. Jobs were lost because of the father not going because he was hungover or drunk. Usually, when he was drunk, Quigley's father would lay into him with a leather belt or whatever he could get his hands on at the time. At first, the child didn't know any better, thought this was normal and went on with it. There were times his father would treat his mother the same way and she took it without stopping him. Must be normal, right?
It'd come a few years before Quigley stood up to his father. At 17 years old, his sister was born. She was a tiny thing, frail and premature. Working at a neighboring ranch, going to school and taking care of this girl became his life's mission. Anything she could possibly want, she or need, he went out and worked for it to make sure she didn't want for anything. When his sister was five, he came home to the shack they rented in Missoula, MT, and found his sister crying on his mother's lap. His mother was sporting a bruised face and his father was drinking a beer in the recliner. Needless to say, that man wouldn't be laying a hand on anyone else. Livid, beyond reasoning, Quigley went to his father's room, pulled out the shotgun that was kept in the closet, and returned only to fire two shots in the man's chest.
Quigley was arrested and tried as an adult. He would sit in prison for a few years and be let out on probation for good behavior. Meanwhile, his sister was taken away from his mother and given to foster family after foster family. He received letters occasionally, and made plans to get out and get a real job, support the three of them. But his mother died of an overdose shortly after he was sent to prison. It'd be just the two of them at that point.
At twenty-five, he was released from prison and on probation. He didn't get his sister right away, nor would he due to his history. It wouldn't be until another three years before the two petitioned the judge for her to live with him. Quigley pursued a career in law enforcement, wanting to right wrongs and sought retribution for taking his father's life - regardless of how badly he deserved it. After some convincing and proving himself worthy - and getting his GED - he joined the academy and graduated among the top of his class. He worked with the local police department for a few years, thus the judge agreeing to let Annie live with him. But it wasn't long before he was caught in a shootout and got injured. The severity of his injury, along with a bad case of PTSD, prevented him from returning to work.
Quigley and his sister now live in a small cottage in Choteau while he finds work at a ranch. The rest remains to be seen.
